Born in Madrid, Spain, where he started doing TV commercials as a child, Juanjo was only 8 years old when he first starred in a TV series entitled “Dear Teacher”, after which he worked in two other series on Spanish television: “Celebs and Company” and “Partners”.
In 2000, he was the youngest actor ever to receive a Goya Award (Spanish equivalent of the Oscar®) for Best Emerging Actor for his role in EL BOLA.
He won a string of other acting awards including: the Spanish Actors Union Newcomer Award for EL BOLA, the Golden Goblet Award at the Shanghai Film Festival 2007 for DOGHEAD, the Best Actor Award at the 2005 San Sebastian Film Festival for Picture This' 7 VIRGINS, as well as numerous nominations for additional Goyas and Cinema Writers Circle Awards.
His hobbies include all sports, but particularly fishing. He has broken his cheekbone and two ribs after being mobbed by his fans.
