The
film's story revolves around the struggles of two
16-year-old boys, Dieter (Matt Klemp) and Philip
(Andrew Woodhouse), and the difficulties they face
growing up gay in a small American town of German
heritage, New Ulm, Minnesota.
The tension that builds as they conceal their
sexual identities forces Philip to flee for the big
city, Minneapolis. Once there, he eventually turns to
prostitution as a means of filling his financial and
emotional void.
Meanwhile, in New Ulm, his friend Dieter continues
to deny his sexuality as he struggles under the weight
of a puritanical home environment. During this time,
he teams up with Udo (Ralf Schirg), a German man in
his late 20s, who, has recently emigrated to America
in search of the idyllic life portrayed in movies and
TV.
Their relationship becomes suspect due to Dieter's
youth and Udo's reckless behavior. Dieter's strict
father beats Dieter and threatens Udo with arrest.
Dieter runs away, persuading Udo to travel with him
to Minneapolis to look up his runaway friend, Philip.
Once there, Phillip introduces Dieter to the fast
money and attendant perils of street hustling. Udo's
life also goes into a tailspin.
